In Transilvania: "Mehr wie
zum Leben braucht man nicht." An ethnography in words and
images
The
exhibition Mehr wie zum Leben braucht
man nicht contains several hundred photographs (stills)
originating from a documentary film research project which was
completed in the middle of the 1990's.
The photos are grouped in themes and shown in frames. They portray mainly
older women and men from a group of people known as Transylvanian Saxons.
In addition there are extracts of interviews and original video material
presented.
This combination makes it possible to realize the views of the portrayed
persons on the question of emigration or remaining and to understand the
reasons for their decisions to stay. But however one judges the social
relevance of the displays shown, the decisive nature of this exhibition,
is the view of the portrayed looking upon the viewer and how the viewers
respond.
